Henna At Avalon What is Henna? Henna is a temporary dye that is safe for the skin. True henna is not black and anyone claiming it is black is using something that may be unsafe for the skin. The exception to this is Harque staining which is a temporary black dye that lasts 1-3 days. It creates a reddish brown stain on the skin, which deepens within 24 hours after the application. The stain then lasts for approximately 2-4 weeks depending on where the stain is and how often it is washed and exfoliated. Where does henna come from? Henna comes from a plant that grows in the Middle East. It is powdered and sifted to make a fine paste, which is applied to the skin after being mixed with various citrus and oil products. How did henna start? Henna is an ancient art, which has roots in many cultures. It was and still is done in many countries in the Middle East, as well as at fairs and beaches across America. In Ancient Celtic times it was called Blue Wooding (New at the salon!), which was created using an indigo ink. Where does henna work best?| | | | The areas that stain best are: |

How much does it cost?It can cost anywhere from $10-40 dollars depending on the designs complexity and time needed to do the design. The average cost is $25. What do I need to do once I get a henna? You need to keep it clean and DRY for 24 hours. Do not rub, pick or otherwise remove the paste once it is dry. When the 24 hours is up take gently scrape away the paste and coat it with olive oil.
