Avalonian History

Avalon hair, nail, and tanning salon, was previously called Evangelines’ and originally owned by Marlene Porter. The salon ran for more than ten years.  The first name was Evangelines' Nail Boutique, then Evangelines' Down Under, and finally Evangelines'.  In December 2004 the salon was purchased by its third owner; Kimberly Sherman-Cook.  In January of 2005, after a remodel and clean up, the salon re-opened. It is here where I must take a moment to thank my parents, and friends, and my husband for not only standing by my side but also for helping with much muscle and man hours to bring the salon to its current state. During the summer of 2005 after much discussion it was decided that it was time for the final change, the name. After much consideration the name of the salon was changed to Avalon.  Why you might ask?

Why Avalon?

The salon was named Avalon, after the great women of England. The myth goes that once upon a time many, many years ago there were women who lived and trained on an Isle to be healers, wise woman, midwives, medicine woman, and spiritual healers. They were said to be some of the most beautiful woman in all the land. There are other myths of the legend that say that the Isle had direct relations to King Arthur and still others that say that the Isle of Avalon meant The Isle of Apples. The Isle of Apples holds a deeper meaning because in mythology apples represented eternal life, are known as the fruit of wisdoms, eternal beauty and a fruit of love. For those of you that have known me for years, you know that this is a no-brainer. For those of you that don't, I have always kept a healthy passion for the Renaissance, and medieval times. It is for all these reasons that we called it Avalon.

Avalon Today

We the women of Avalon, design and create beauty, and try to make the beauty we see within people come out, that is what Avalon is all about.

Now just a short time later it is home to many gifted and talented hair and nail technicians who are ready and waiting to service your every need. Each member of our staff has a minimum of two years of ten years experience in the field. We are each here because we love what we do and have a strong desire to service your hair, nail, and tanning needs.

It is for this reason that I know you and your family are in the best of hands from the time you walk in our door, and even after you leave. I hope that you will come in and try our salon out for yourself.
